Onboarding

Thanks for choosing TatShop. This guide walks through the setup steps that matter most so you can take payments, book clients, list products, and open your storefront with confidence.

Work through the sections in order. You can refine details later. Most Settings defaults are already sensible for a studio-first launch: the catalog can be visible as a showroom, while online checkout stays off until you enable it.

Payments

TatShop uses two payment providers:

  • Square — in-store card payments (POS, booking settlement, deposits, gift cards at the counter)
  • Stripe — online checkout (storefront cart, deposit payment links, gift card purchases)

Off-line (manual)

Set manual payment methods for cash and other non-integrated payments.

  1. Go to Settings → Fulfillment and tap Add payment method.
  2. Add at least one manual payment method, such as cash or bank transfer.
  3. Write-down types can be used for methods where you do not collect money, such as promotions.

In-Store (Square)

Use Square when a client pays at the studio.

  1. Create a Square Developer application and copy the Application ID, access token, and Location ID.
  2. Register the Point of Sale web callback URL and a payment.updated webhook.
  3. Paste the credentials under Settings → Integration.
  4. Install the Square Point of Sale app on your phone, sign in to the matching account, and enable Tap to Pay or your reader.

Test from POS or a booking Settle booking: choose Square, open Square, complete a small payment, and confirm TatShop records the sale.

Online (Stripe)

Use Stripe when customers pay on your website or via emailed deposit links. You can set Stripe up before you turn on online shop sales.

  1. From the Stripe Dashboard, copy your live secret and publishable API keys.
  2. Add a webhook endpoint for checkout.session.completed pointing at your shop domain.
  3. Paste the secret key, publishable key, and webhook signing secret under Settings → Integration.
  4. Prefer instant methods (cards, Afterpay, and similar). Deferred methods such as direct debit can delay order fulfillment.

Business

Under Settings → Business, set the commercial details that appear on receipts, invoices, and the storefront:

  1. Currency for prices and reports.
  2. GST (or your local tax treatment).
  3. Business numbers and legal name as you want them shown on documents.
  4. Gift card purchase min/max if you will sell cards later.
  5. Optional: turn on print transaction receipts if you want a print prompt after POS / settle / deposit / gift card sales.

Also check Settings → General for your shop name, admin timezone, and order number prefixes (online, in-store, deposits, bookings).

Bookings

Configure the calendar before you take appointments.

  1. Open Settings → Bookings.
  2. Add at least one artist and one seat (both must be active).
  3. Create the appointment types (minimum one) you offer and set studio hours.
  4. Set a default deposit amount if you collect deposits up front.
  5. Review reminder, pre-appointment, and post-appointment message copy (and SMS options if you use them).
  6. Optionally enable public holidays and tune the public booking / contact form under Settings → Booking form.

Then open Bookings, create a test appointment for a contact, send a confirmation, and walk through Settle booking so the payment path feels familiar. Day-to-day calendar use is covered in Bookings.

Products

If you sell merch, aftercare, or digital downloads:

  1. Open ProductsAdd product.
  2. Choose Physical (stock / POS / online) or Digital (online download after payment).
  3. Enable the channels you need (online catalog and/or in-store POS). With online sales still off, online-enabled products appear in the showroom but cannot be purchased online yet.
  4. Organise items with categories so customers can browse.
  5. If you want to manage stock, enable the option when creating your product. You can then use the Stock tabs (Receive, Stocktake, Adjustments).

Optional: assign artist royalty ownership so royalty reports stay accurate when those products sell at POS or settlement.

Storefront

Polish what customers see on the public site:

  1. Pages — enable, reorder, and edit standard pages (Home, Shop, Portfolio, Contact, FAQ, and any custom pages) under Settings → Pages. Flash and Gift cards start off; turn them on when you need them.
  2. Design — colours, fonts, and overall appearance under Settings → Design.
  3. Content — SEO, policies, banner, branding, cart icon / cart term, and gift card themes under Settings → Content.
  4. Portfolio — upload finished work under Portfolio so the gallery is not empty on launch.
  5. Open the globe in the admin bar and click through as a customer.

When you are ready to sell online

  1. Turn on Enable online sales under Settings → General.
  2. Enable Shipping and/or Click & collect under Settings → Shipping and Settings → Fulfillment, and add countries / methods as needed.
  3. Confirm Stripe is connected, then test browse → add to cart → checkout.

New shops start with online sales off. Enable them only when you are ready for real online orders.

Quick start

A bare minimum for day one — defaults cover most of the rest:

  1. Shop name and business details — Settings → General and Business
  2. Manual payment method — Settings → Fulfillment
  3. Square and/or Stripe if you take cards — Settings → Integration
  4. One artist, one seat, one appointment type — Settings → Bookings
  5. Optional products for the showroom or POS — Products
  6. Glance at the storefront via the globe in the admin bar

When something needs a deeper walkthrough, use Help in the admin bar or browse the sidebar — Signing in, Dashboard, Bookings, Point of sale, Products, Settings, and Integrations cover the details.
